Devlog 10: Production Sprint 2 week 3

Tech

Greetings, divine gamers! We're thrilled to share the latest progress on Godly Gambit, the chaotic top-down couch co-op PvP arena-based survival game for PC. We've made significant strides in development, including the addition of a lobby system, a complete gameplay loop from start to finish, and bug fixes like the cursor visibility. The god now loses a life when the timer runs out, adding urgency to the gameplay. We've successfully implemented fighter animations and improved cursor collision. To enhance clarity, we've added color-matching circles under the fighters. We've increased cursor speed for more precise and responsive controls.

We have implemented a mechanic where the fighter's movement speed is reduced when they run backwards, adding a sense of realism and strategy to the gameplay.

Additionally, as the fighter, you now visually bleed when you get hit by an enemy or a meteorite, enhancing the immersion and intensity of the combat experience.

Furthermore, the god character becomes more powerful as more fighters join the game. This is reflected in reduced cooldowns for their abilities and an increased number of enemies to provide a greater challenge for the growing team of fighters. This dynamic scaling ensures a balanced and engaging gameplay experience as the player count increases.

Environment

The core of our envrionment is finished ! We had some player feedback from other people and got rid of the ramps, since it didn’t get used.

It’s also more clear now which player is the current god, but this still needs to be tweaked in polish.

Meteor

We have finally a meteor with a texture ready to get some particle love. With mostly a change to make it emissive.

Enemy Animations

We also created the rig and animations for the enemies, so these will no longer T-pose you to death!

In order to make the rigging & skinning work we had to manually rig & skin the mesh in Maya, and separate the Spear & Shield from the character. These were later added back to the mesh by parenting them to the hand bones of the enemy rig in Unity. They now follow along with the arms while the enemy is performing the animations!

Sound

For the sound effects, we have added two new effects. First, when the fighter performs a dash, there is now a specific sound effect to enhance the feeling of speed and agility during the maneuver. Additionally, when the fighter gets hit by an attack, a distinct sound effect plays to emphasize the impact and convey the sense of danger or damage. These new sound effects contribute to the overall immersion and excitement of the game.
