Devlog 5: Production week 2

Tech

Well, folks, we have some good news to share! Our latest update for Godly Gambit has fixed a pretty hilarious bug that caused all of our fighters to shoot their crossbow arrows at the same time. I mean, talk about teamwork, right?

But fear not, our input system has finally caught up with the times and can now handle multiple players properly.

And as for that pesky god who was apparently sneaking in some unauthorized button pressing, we've put a stop to that too. It's time for the fighters to take control of their own destinies and show off their skills without any divine intervention.

As you can see, we have equipped our fighter with improved arrows that are capable of following the terrain. When the fighter shoots on a ramp, the arrow will ascend, and when they shoot downward, the arrow will descend. This is accomplished using two raycasts: one to ensure that the arrow is not too low and another to check if it isn't too high. However, there is a limit to how high the arrow can go, so if the fighter shoots from an elevated position with no ramp, the arrow will simply fly through the air.

Art

Our environment is starting to take some shape, hooray!

The first meshes are being added in our arena. A couple more meshes and you won’t see anything of the blockout anymore. A lot of our arena is going to be the ground, so once we have that, it will be a huge improvement for the feel of our game

We have also started texturing and rigging the characters! So far the characters had been untextured, but now they have finally got some life to them:

The first step was unwrapping the model of the Fighter, God, and Enemy. This was to prepare a UV layout that we could texture on in Photoshop. This week we prioritized giving textures to the Fighters first, since these are the main characters of the game! These textures will be improved in the upcoming week, but at least the characters have a bit more ‘character’ to them now!

In addition, we played around with Mixamo rigging & animating a little bit to test if the models were suited for that software, and the results look quite promising!

Behold, a fallen fighter…..
