Devlog 3: Game Design
Tech
This week we implemented the swap feature and we changed the player damage orb to a "gun" that will more represent our end product. With the gun we did a small sound test to let us know what you find of the sound or some recommendations for other gun sounds. Speaking of helping us tell where we can balance it better for later in our progress.
For the swap mechanic we had some struggles. We got some errors with null reference and functions that were called wrongly but after putting our heads together we solved the problems.
Art
This week the main focus in the art department was the ArtBible. However, some additional research was done and some changes were made. To start off, we made some more reference art / mood studies using Midjourney AI:
These images capture the atmosphere that we are looking for: an arena taken over by an evil god. They contain fire, destruction, and moody weather.
In addition, we reapplied the material shader test to better match the new references. A new scene was created with more assets and lighting to test if we could recreate the mood from the AI images in a more stylized / simplified setting:
In the upcoming weeks we will be applying the shader and these new references to create an arena that encapsulates the mood that we want. We want the players to feel like they’re in danger!
