Devlog 8: Production Sprint 2

Tech

This week, we added a timer to the game, but it is not quite ready yet. We still need to implement the feature that swaps when the time runs out. However, the countdown is now present in the game. Additionally, we have added a warning zone where the timer turns red and starts shaking a bit to indicate that the time is running out.

(Due to the recording software, the shaking in the GIF may look slower than it does in the actual game.)

In other exciting news, we've implemented a new feature where enemies have a chance of dropping health packs when killed. This should make it easier for players to survive in tough battles. We've also added a functional health bar that scales based on the amount of health left, and a lives display that updates when the player loses a life. Of course, we've also been busy fixing numerous bugs to improve the overall gameplay experience.

Effects

We added some effects ready to be implemented some already are. A trail to chase the arrows fired by our fighters to their target. Lava spewing to occasionally liven up the lava under the arena. On that note we added fog ready to be put in to the environment. We also added an arrow fire effect to give some more player feedback when they fire.

We also added a new Spawn effect for the Health pack, it grabs more attention than before

Our arena is getting close. The ground plane and the lava shader really start making the feel of our game.

Gameplay UI has also been added. Now everyone can see how much health they have, and the amount of lives.

The cooldowns of the abilities still need visual representation.

Main Menu

We also created a title screen and main menu for the game! We also updated the game’s logo, which now includes the name of the game:

Sound

Playing a game without sound is like swimming without water. So, this week, we added some sounds to the game. For instance, there are now sound effects for when the meteor crashes into the ground, when your fighter hits a soldier, when they shoot, or when you switch with the god.

But that's not all - we've also added some background music, although this is actually the music for our lobby. The main theme is still in the works, and perhaps next week, you'll hear the jam that will make your heart tremble in your boots.
